Simplicity Photography Challenge

21 October, 2010

The theme this week is SOOC (which is a photography term that stands for Strait Out Of Camera and means that the image has not been edited) I love a great edit as much as the next person, but sometimes it is really thrilling to get a GREAT image, right out of the camera. So this leaves the challenge wide open! Just make sure that it's unedited (a watermark is fine and will still be considered SOOC)

So, here's my SOOC photo

What do you think?

Oh the places We've been

20 October, 2010

Hi, remember me?  I'm Amy...ya know, the one that runs this blog?  Ok, now that we're reacquainted, on to where Fire Husband and I have been since Saturday.

Saturday started out as a typical day.  I got up at 0515 with Fire Husband to make his lunch and make him a cup of coffee.  It's become a ritual, that I hope to continue once we've moved into the new house.  Fire Husband left for work, I went back to sleep.  I woke up at 9 to take my meds, and then went back to sleep until 11.  Got up, got ready for my photo shoot.  Went to my shoot, and had a blast (thanks Sarah!), and head to the Commissary to get some stuff we forgot to pick up the day before.  There was something going on on base, and it was INSANE, it took me 20 minutes just to get through the gate!  But that's neither here nor there.  I got the shopping done, and headed home.

My plan was to take a nap, and then go to dinner with a friend.  I was just getting off the highway when Fire Husband called, my father in law had been cutting trees, and one of them got hung up, and when they finally got it free, it hit him.  That didn't sound good.  But we didn't really have any idea of how bad it was.  I continued home, and Fire Husband headed home from work, to pick me up, and then we'd head to the hospital.  Fire Husband got another call from his mom, saying that they were diverting to the trauma center, as opposed to the closer hospital.

About an hour later Fire Husband got home, and we headed for the hospital.  When we got there all anyone knew at the time was that his ankle was broken, and he had broken a small bone in his neck.  By the end of the night, we found out that he has 6 broken vertebrae, an broken ankle, and a broken rib.

He is having surgery on his spine tomorrow, and it's going to be a long recovery.

Other then that, things are good.  We're looking forward to moving soon, so that's a big change, but we're ready and excited for it.

I've been working on my Etsy page, and trying to get more shoots booked as well.

I'm only 14 people away from 300 followers!!  That makes me excited.

I'm also offering advertising space here on Live, Laugh, Love.  If you're interested, please contact me!

Until next time.

Survival Sisters

07 October, 2010

So, I’m part of a group online called Wives of Faith.  And in the last couple weeks they have also launched an online community.  Wives of Faith is an amazing place to meet other Christian Military Wives, and really be able to connect with them.

One of the things that we do on Wives of Faith is Survival Sisters.  You sign up and get matched with another military wife for 6 weeks.  This semester of survival sisters started on 1october2010.  And I have to admit that I was nervous at first, but all of that has been set aside now that I’m getting to know my survival sister, K.  She’s just amazing.  We have a great connection, and I look forward to each of her emails.

We are reading the book God Strong, by the founder of WoF, Sara Horn as part of survival sisters.  Then we get a bunch of prompt questions to help us kind of break the ice.  (but I have to admit that I don’t feel like K and I really need jumping off points)

A couple of the questions this week are “how long have you been a military wife?  Share a little bit about your military experience so far.  What’s been good?  What’s been bad?  What’s been hard?”

So, here are my answers to those questions.  I’ve been a military wife for a year an 7 months (before that I was a military girlfriend for 3 and a half years.  (Fire Husband and I have been together almost 5 years)  For the most part it’s been a good experience since we’ve been married.  Before we got married, that was a TOTALLY different story.  I was very much on the outside looking in, and that’s not a great feeling, especially depending on the circumstance.  Good parts have been getting involved in PWOC, making new friends, and getting back into my faith (all made easier by having base access)  I must also say that I’m a happy kid that I can utilize the commissary and exchange.  Makes life easier and cheaper, lol.  The hardest thing I’ve ever gone through as a military SO was before we were married, when Fire Husband was deployed.  It was our first deployment, I ended up loosing my job….it was just awful!

So, yeah, that’s the answers to those questions.  I’ll get to the others later in the week…or later today since it’s totally 0344 and I should so be asleep!
